When a Walk Becomes More Than a Walk

Years ago, I came across a simple yet powerful piece of advice: "Take your camera everywhere you go." Since then, I’ve made it a habit—bringing it along on errands, trips, family gatherings, and even casual strolls.

Carrying a camera shifts your perspective. It awakens your creative eye, helping you notice the extraordinary in the everyday. Recently, while out walking our dog with my wife, I decided to bring my camera. That ordinary walk transformed into something much more—an exploration of light, texture, and fleeting moments.

Photography has a way of turning the routine into something remarkable. So, take your camera, keep your eyes open, and embrace the unexpected.

The Absence of Color

The Absence of Color

Black-and-white photography has always been my first love. Even as a kid, I was drawn to the classics—those old black-and-white movies and TV shows. There’s something magical about them. The lack of color strips away the distractions and pulls your focus to what truly matters—the main subjects. It’s like they were whispering, “Hey, look closer.”

There’s a certain elegance to black and white that color just can’t touch. It’s timeless. It's raw. It’s dramatic.

Lately, I’ve decided to double down on this passion. Among my collection of cameras, I’ve officially crowned one as my black-and-white-only camera. No color allowed. This year, I’m challenging myself to step up my monochrome game—to embrace simplicity and let my work speak with light, shadow, and texture.

No frills. No distractions. Just the quiet beauty of a world without color. Let’s see where this grayscale journey takes me.

Should I , or shouldn't I ?

This summer, while visiting family in Detroit, I carved out time for what I love most: street photography. Armed with my camera, I wandered through the city streets, capturing the essence of life—people, buildings, cars, even the character of discarded trashcans. There's something magical about being in that zone, where the world around you fades and you're fully present, like stepping into another dimension.

As I strolled, I noticed a gentleman walking toward me. A question flickered in my mind, one every street photographer knows too well: Should I? It's that moment of hesitation, a timeless dilemma. But instinct kicked in, and I snapped the shot.

Funny thing? He looked up, smiled, and said, “Have a nice day.” Surprised by his warmth, I smiled back, replying, “You too.” We moved on, like two ships passing in the night, yet that brief interaction stayed with me.

Lesson learned? Just take the picture. Life’s too fleeting to overthink every moment, especially when the result could leave you smiling all day.

ATX Streets

I went out this day with no particular goal in mind, but to just be out on the streets and capture the vibe of the streets. I took mostly video this day, as it is one of my weak points. The photography aspect of street photography comes easy for me, it’s the video side that keeps punching me in the ribcage. Like they say, just keep trucking along.

On the go !

There are times as a creative I think: “ should I make a quick video?” I will will think about this question for several minutes, even though I could just pull my phone out and start recording. It won’t be perfect, picture quality will suck, but then I just make something.

I know it won’t be my “best” work but it get my creative juices flowing and I get excited thinking about what CAN I make! So don’t over think it, just make something, it makes you better in the long run.

Stay Creative My Friends.
